DEFCON ONE! (Is that the worst, or the least? No matter, I think Defcon itself should be enough of a warning.) ALERT, ALERT! Something tragic has occured. Prepare yourself for heartbreaking news...
I can't find my cellphone cord.
I have literally just searched my room for about thirty minutes. (And it's really not that big. Picture a public bathroom in a gas station, and there you are... ok, maybe not quite, but almost!) During this search, I have come to several conclusions:
-Under my bed is REALLY dusty and I should sweep more.
-I have a lot of clothes, and I need either to get rid of some of them or get a bigger dresser. (The second option seems more valid...)
-Unplugging the cord from the charger was stupid. (I actually have no idea why I did this.)
- My cat probably stole it, and I will never find it again.
-Blackberry is evil. Why else would they make a plug-in that is a different size from the fifty other cords we have lying around our house?
Why the big deal, you ask? Are you shaking your head, thinking, "Wow, she's already an addict?" Actually, for once, this is not about texting. This is about the fact that I wanted to put this as my background:
Yes. Cute pictures are serious business.
EDIT: so it is now thirty seconds after I posted this... and I found my cord sitting on the kitchen table.
I have no idea how it got there.
Must have been the fairies...

being a cashier has taught me...
Happy Wednesday, dearest readers! Is anyone else as tired as I am? I can't wait to go home and sleep.... (I'm currently trapped at school, as is too often the case.) My days lately have been divided between classes and cashiering (is that a word? Spellcheck isn't marking it as wrong, so maybe so! However, once I wrote 'speculate' and spellcheck told me that what I really wanted to say was 'semen'... so I wouldn't put too much faith in it.) Since I've been working so much lately, I've learnt a few things about being a cashier, and I thought I'd share some of my wisdom with all of you!
-Trust me, we don't want to chat. (Or maybe I'm just antisocial. That's possible too.) The number of times I have to chat about the weather... To be brutally honest, I have no interest in your life.
-It's my job to ask you if you have a rewards card, and trust me, I'm just as sick of it as you are. (So don't look at me as though I ate your child.)
-I'm a teenager. My brain is fed on emo music and Vampire Diaries, so don't expect me to know that Visa and Mastercard are credit cards. Just tell me!
-Snarking at me is absolutely useless and will in fact make me want to work slower and help you less.
-You have one item. In plastic packaging. It's sunny outside. Do you really need a bag?
-Don't give me that weird look. If you'd been standing here for three hours, you'd be doing squats and stretches too. (Actually, this one might just be me... I have yet to see any of my co-workers doing this.)
What are some things your job has taught you? For your sake, I'm just hoping it's more exciting than mine!
Also: YAY I designed a new banner! (And it only took me about three hours to put it up. Yes I am technologically challenged, thanks.) What do you think of it?

there's a first time for everything
So, unless you've never visited my
wonderful scribbling place (aka this blog) before, you'll have noticed that I changed
the template. However, what you may not know is something even more wonderful.
I edited the HTML.
(Take a break and let that sink in.) Yes.
It's not my template, but somehow I managed to edit it until it was to my
satisfaction. This may not seem like a big deal, but I am literally one of the least
technologically savvy people I know. (Witness this post the other day...although that might just be the mutant squirrels.) Computers
have been known to turn off as I approach. Despite having it for several years,
I still haven't figured out how to change the ringtone on our landline phone.
(I don't even own a cell, but if I did... let's not even go there.)
Basically...I AM SO PROUD OF MYSELF RIGHT
NOW. It was nothing big... but it was a first step. (Yes, this was basically just me giving
myself a giant hug. Someone has to.)
I hope that all of you have done something you're equally
excited by recently!

technological woes
I realised that it's been a while since I
mentioned mutant squirrels in any of my blog posts. Obviously they've been
lying low to prepare for their latest coup: destroying my computer.
When I turned it on, all seemed as usual. A
beautiful flamingo greeted me (maybe if I'd chosen a squirrel, none of this
would have happened?) when suddenly... it was no longer there. Before my
horrified eyes appeared... The Blue Screen of Death. (Capitals definitely
necessary.)
I can't even make light of this. I nearly
fell off my chair in shock. (Although, to be honest, I shouldn't have been
rocking back on two 'legs' anyway. Listen to your elementary school teachers!)
Thankfully, after a longggggggg rebooting session, all my files reappeared as
usual. (Well, I'm hoping- I've actually been afraid to check.)
After this near heart attack, I decided
that it would be a good idea to back up all of my important files (read:
writing and photos, not schoolwork, because if I lose that it's an easy excuse
to be late) onto one of the many external hard drives we have lying about. (Why
do we have more than one? Who knows...)
It took me about fifteen minutes to locate
one. (Of course the day I want one, they'll all be hidden.) It weighs about twenty pounds, so lugging it
up the stairs was a nice little workout. Both my desk and the bed were exactly
the wrong distance from the plug-in, so I had to crouch awkwardly on the floor
with the laptop... and it told me it would take twenty minutes an hour ago.
Then, I logged onto my Blogger account to
post this... and realised that all the blogs I followed had, as one of my
friends would say, dropped off the face of the earth. Everything was not
okie-dokie-artichokie (another friend-ism). I looked at a couple of these
blogs, and I was still registered as a follower- my account had just decided
that I would no longer be receiving updates from them. (As you can see, I'm a
little hypocritical. What would I do without my daily blog reading? I might
actually have to do research during classes!)
Fingers crossed- hopefully they'll reappear
soon.
Gahh. How do you get mutant squirrels to
forgive you? (I'm guessing that running around screaming like a banshee
wouldn't help... nor do I want to invite over the neighbours' cat to eat them. He'd surely get indigestion.)
