...or, more accurately, What Not to Do when trying to creep someone at the library. (Come on now. I'm sure you've all done this. Or wanted to do this. Close enough...) No worries, I'm here to help!
1- Giggling is not subtle. No but really.
2- Hope that your target is sitting in a well-populated area... and not in the most awkward spot beside the dictionaries. I mean really, why sit there anyway? Don't you know that people might want to come... -coughcough- investigate you? Cut me some slack here.
3- If you want a subtle phone, do not get a Blackberry. I love my phone, but I must admit that the keys are a little loud, and therefore not conducive to silent stalking. (Or silent usage while in class. These are important things to keep in mind!) In this respect (and this respect only!) touch-screens are preferable.
4- Hope that your target is sitting near interesting books. The aforementioned dictionaries do not make for good 'Oh, yes, I'm fascinated by this book and I'm totally staring at it and not your head' material. Nor do books such as "Our Aging Problem: how to take care of your elderly parents" or "Fortune 500: the revised list!" Try to apply no. 1 while looking at those titles, I dare you. (To say nothing of the sex manuals that were also lying nearby... Yes, I am that immature.)
5- Have a friend nearby. This way, if all else fails, you can run up to them and pretend that you were looking for them The Entire Time. "Omg, you've lost so much weight that I thought you were hiding in the shelf!" Convincing, right?
...or you could just wait to run into the target while walking down the stairs. That also works.

winner, hopefully always
So... I won a giveaway! Of this gorgeous necklace! How exciting is that? (The answer is, through the roof!) It was held by the lovely Laura over at Blue Eyed Night Owl and featured a necklace from Khrystyna's beautiful shop. (If you want to win something this beautiful, head on over to her blog- she's having a giveaway now too!) I can't wait to wear it- a great way to jazz up my uniform for sure.
On a slightly related note: did you know that... a lobster's blood is clear until it hits oxygen, then it becomes blue?
Nope. Me neither... but now we do! And there's your useless fact of the day.
Where does this come from, you may ask? Why did you need to look this up and share it with us?
Well. You might not have realised this (it doesn't really come up in my posts) but... I have an intensely competitive nature. Like, about everything. When I was younger, I used to say I had bigger feet than I really did because one of my friends had larger feet than I did and I wanted to 'beat' her... (Typing this makes it all seem incoherent and ridiculous, but it was A BIG DEAL for quite a while- see the pun?) I'd like to say that this tendency diminished through the years, but unfortunately it hasn't.
So, now that I am one of two students in my math class... IT IS ON.
How does science come into this, you might ask? Well, he also happens to be in my chemistry class, and every single day, he comes up with random facts that are somehow also related to the lesson. He's like an encyclopedia... and it's driving me insane.
(Kori and I now have conversations composed entirely of "Did you know?" A sample here:
"Did you know that this hot chocolate is hot?"
"Did you know that James Bond has a cousin named Ionic?"
and my personal favourite..."Did you know that my breasts can tell when it's raining?" Please tell me you catch the reference!)
So does anyone know any fascinating science facts I could share?
Also, just cause...
Drinking this would simply be cruel...
...but not as cruel as this.

random ramblings
Because I'm already ready to go to bed, and rambling is just fun.
- Highlight of religion class: when one of the boys hot-glued beads to his nipples. (Not making this stuff up, guys. You'd think that someone who's in grade 12 would know better, but it seems not.)
- Of course, this same boy did hot-glue his own hair to his face last year in order to make a beard, so there we are. (What can I say, he's a real winner...)
- You know you're in Canada when it's September and the snow shovels are already on display. (The sad moment...)
- Picture day was yesterday, and was surprisingly non-painful... just until I remembered that we still need to get grad photos taken. Sigh.
- Chemistry is suprisingly cool. (Especially compared to physics... it's like the names say. Physics is like when you...ok, I have no idea where this metaphor is going and I think I'll just stop here before I dig myself too deep a hole.)
To finish, here are a few pictures I saw around the Interwebz that I thought were funny! (Good for a tiring, rainy Friday.)
...sad to say, but that's kinda my life.
...same. (Aka today.)
...wait. WHAT? That's right. It's a dog... but also two dogs... MIND BLOWN.
So yeah. I think I'm going to bed now. (It's 4:30, fyi.) Peace and love, baby ducks! (Which is a book that I have no interest in reading. I just like the title.)

openminded to oddness
It is a truth universally acknowledged that dancing is fun. (Okay, maybe it's not universal... but it should be! Just think of how much happier the world would be!) Another universally acknowledged truth is (or again, should be) that dressing up makes everything better. It logically follows that, when you dress up to go out dancing, it's one of the most enjoyable activities possible to girlkind... and in this case, logic did not disappoint. What was I doing, you may ask?
Why, Jane Austen dancing, of course!
Have you ever watched Pride and Prejudice? If not (and shame on you, go watch it now!) here's a quick clip to show you what I mean.
Yes, I can actually dance that. Be impressed -wink- The other night, there was actually a ball near us! Well, more precisely a reenactment- and the only reason that part is important is because reenactment= volunteers= cute boys... in Regency outfits. (Score!)
Let's just say... it was a lot of fun.
However, our merriment caused some of the other dancers to become alarmed- and not only because we were so confused that we kept messing them up... tripping over poles and each others' feet... dancing the wrong dance entirely... etc! By virtue of being the youngest regular dancer, I've become something of a pet to the others. (Case in point: both my dress and the hat I sometimes wear- which can be seen here- were handmade gifts from two of the other lovely members.) The shockingly forward behavior (in Jane Austen terms) we were exhibiting (read: shameless flirtation) led one of the other dancers to whisper in my ear: "Remember, Wickham was a redcoat!"
Now, at this point, you will either start laughing (or at the very least give me a smile, come on!) or stare at the screen thinking... what? To the second reaction, I have only to say again: read Pride and Prejudice! Or watch the movie! (You know you want to stare at a young Colin Firth.)
Really, though, all you need to know is that Wickham was a Bad Man- not someone you'd trust farther than you could curtsey. (Does that even make sense? I don't believe so, but oh well.) Never fear, dearest readers. I was in no danger of losing my heart. (Only my shoes, since I stepped on my own toes so many times.)
Moral of the story: dancing is fun and Pride and Prejudice is wonderful, kthanksbye.
And if this post doesn't count for my PDA prompt of 'something weird that I own'... I don't know what does. (We're in the home stretch now! The full list can be found here!) What's your secret oddity? Are you a Jane Austen obsessionist too?

future scientist on the loose? nahhh
I posted a
while back about how much I hated physics. So much work... I actually
had to use my brain... who wants that? Looking pretty gets you much farther,
right? So it's okay that I don't care, because as long as I know how to apply
my blue mascara and smile I'll get everything I want.
(Kidding!
It's such a lie! ...it's really my amazing fashion sense that'll get me
somewhere in life.)
However,
this morning, I was accidentally drawn into a discussion about it (It wasn't my
fault, I swear! That's the last time I ask someone what they're reading...) and
I was, to my surprise and horror, a tiny bit fascinated.
Did you
know that particles actually have a wavelength? And that, at any given moment, a
light particle has a fifty percent chance of being in one spot, but could also
be in another? (Except it's not really fifty percent because of interference
and frequency lines...) MIND. BLOWN.
I actually
miss physics a little right now.
Confession:
a tiny part of this... just a little squick... might be because it was a cute
boy who was explaining all this to me. But just a minuscule photon-sized bit. And
I definitely wasn't thinking this...
Nope. That thought did not cross my mind. At all. Not even at the speed of an electron.
Hope you're
all having a wonderful Friday! Is anyone else intrigued by Physics now? Did anyone else actually know these things?

highlights of the weekend
It's a tiny bit sad that it's already
Thursday and I only now am getting around to posting about my weekend... but
let's face it, my eyes are literally closing a little bit as I type, and that's
actually better than the past two days. (I
was bouncing off the walls. Believe me, a blog entry typed while exhausted is
far better than one typed while crazy...)
·
Lots of
hair compliments!
·
Was told
multiple times that I looked twelve. (Thank you, boys. Really, that's what you
tell a girl to win her heart.)
·
Ate cookie
dough ice cream. (OMG it is the best flavour, and anyone who says different is
lying or delusional.)
·
Sleep?
What's that?
·
Met a ton
of wonderful people who were just as crazy as I was, both male and female.
(This was really the best part- that's why it's stuck in the middle, like the icing
in an Oreo!)
·
Still
didn't figure out how to do a pretty messy bun. (If anyone has skillz at this,
please help me out.)
·
Improved
my dance skillz as well as marvelling at everyone else's. (Ok, so this is not
difficult since they were basically non-existent... but still.)
·
FLASH MOB!
·
Discovered
that I actually hadn't overpacked (it was SO HOT the entire weekend that I had
to change multiple times to avoid smelling like a football player's locker)
In addition, here's a little guessing game.
Which one of these things happened?
a) I fell off the stage during my dance
recital.
b) A guy wrote his number down my arm in
Sharpie.
c) I covered myself in grass and pretended
to be Peeta.
Let me know in the comments! How's your
week going? (Hopefully it's as exciting as my weekend was!) I missed you all-
thanks for reading!

why am i here… (random french class musings)
Sometimes, my
brain just goes into overload. Does anyone ever have moments when they’re
completely and totally on a rocketship to another world? (In this case, its
fuel was French grammar. Why does it have to be so much more COMPLICATED than
English?) This can be fun (like when I visit penguins and dinosaurs and mutant
squirrels, oh my!) but it’s also a disadvantage when the teacher calls on me
and I realise I haven’t heard anything for the past 15 minutes. The same
process inevitably follows : I turn bright red, smile like a maniac and
answer something completely random. (Sometimes, if I’m especially lucky, this
happens several times in a row because the teacher asks me to repeat myself.)
Whoops. (Then everyone stares at me, and unfortunately it’s not just because of
the beauty of my pink glasses.) Writing blog entries in class= not the best
idea.
On another
note, why do guys take up so much SPACE while they’re working? Seriously, I’m
looking around the class right now and all of the guys have their stuff
stretched across at least two desks. Is this some kind of
marking-your-territory thing, like peeing in corners? (Speaking of, why do they
go to the bathroom in packs? Wouldn’t that be super awkward, and isn’t that a
girl thing anyway?) Please, if you understand this, explain. (Although it’s
possible that the guys at my school are just freaks. I wouldn’t be surprised.)
I’ll end this
here, before it disintegrates further into confusion. We’re now watching a
creepy video where all the actors look like wax effigies and speak with
Québécois accents so heavy that I have no idea what they’re saying. (My brain
is rapidly falling back to earth, prepared to crash-land on the desk.) In case you’re curious, here it is a link… (Be warned though, you'll probably be like whattt? Even the frozen picture is creepy...)

my first love letter
You are my life. Without you, there would
be no way I could get up in the morning. Everything about you is just so
wonderful. You warm me and make my heart beat faster.
Oh, caffeine. I love you so.
Coffee or tea are both equally enchanting.
(I do, however, consider energy drinks your ugly cousin.) Your smell, your
taste... the way you make me hyper enough to trip over my own feet and
accidentally run into doors...
Okay, maybe I love that part a little less.
And the other less good part... when you
spill. Because then I can't drink you! And that makes me sad. And it makes the
person that I spilt you on even sadder. Although I don't know why, since then
they smell good, just like you. Who wouldn't want to smell like coffee for the
rest of the day? Like free perfume!
Really, he didn't have to be quite so mean
about it. He knows I'm a klutz. (Let's face it, everybody from the postman I
ran into with my bike to my grumpy neighbour whose flowerbed I fell into knows.)
He should forgive me, and move on. (For some reason, my eyelash batting wasn't
as effective... maybe it was because I wasn't wearing blue mascara?) After all,
later I fell off a desk (doing an obstacle course, with my eyes closed, under
your influence? BAD IDEA) and he laughed uproariously... shouldn't that have
been payback enough? But no. He still
refused to help me with physics.
I fear my heart might break.
Oh, dearest caffeine... I'll have to spend
more time with you in order to console myself. (Crazy cat lady? Pfft, no. Try
crazy coffee lady. Literally, because I start bouncing off walls...)
