singing the day away

"I'm moving slow and steady, and my head feels like a waterfall." (Slow and Steady, Of Monsters and Men)

This is the song lyric I have stuck in my head today. (Yes. I only ever get one line stuck in my head, and then I sing it all day. Aren't you glad you don't live with me?) What does this even mean? How can your head feel like a waterfall? Right now, I'm imagining Rapunzel. "Let down your hair! Oh, it looks like a beautiful blonde waterfall!" (Is this really a compliment? Hmmm...) Other examples of odd lyrics that often get stuck in my head are:

·         Strawberry Fields Forever, The Beatles. "Always know sometimes think it's me, but you know I know and it's a dream." Isn't this a paradox? (However, it was written by the Beatles... probably in a drug haze... I shouldn't be searching for too much meaning.)
·         Take Me to the Riot, Stars. "Good news is my shoes is lined with all my nickels and my tens." How do you fit nickels in your shoes? I guess it would be a good workout- like weight-lifting for your legs!
·         Alligator Sky, Owl City. "Where was I when the rockets came to life and carried you away, into the alligator sky?" What exactly is an alligator sky? I'm picturing Can anyone explain this to me? And where did these rockets come from, anyway?
·         Ours, Taylor Swift. "I love the gaps between your teeth, and I love the riddles that you speak..." This one is simply perplexing. How are teeth gaps in any way attractive?
·        Taylor, Jack Johnson. "She used to be a limber chicken, time's a been tickin', now she's finger lickin'" KFC reference? Really?

Have you heard any of these songs? What kind of songs do you get stuck in your head?

  1. Those are not mad songs to get stuck in your head! Anything catchy can get trapped in my brain. Usually some Katy Perry song.

    1. I agree, Katy Perry is very catchy... and also pretty bizarre sometimes!

  2. This happens to me ALL the time! And not only songs- but movie quotes, Shakespeare and just random words even.
    I love Strawberry Fields :)

  4. Aww but the Taylor swift one is just reassuring the guy that the gap between his front teeth is adorable to her no matter what. Doesn't mean it's a big gap! My boyfriend, when he heard the lyric though, started raising his eyebrow just to question "why?" Lol

  6. Haha I love this post! It's so true, sometimes song lyrics make absolutely no sense, and the supposed deeper meaning is just something that went through their head when they were high.
Imagine that line from Sexy and I Know It having a deeper meaning: Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle, wiggle, yeah!
