happily, this is all in the past

I made blueberry pancakes for breakfast today. This simple fact made me inordinately proud, for the reason that the last time I made pancakes was four years or so ago and it was a traumatizing experience. (So traumatizing, in fact, that I don't even remember what happened...)

(If you're wondering where this is going, the answer is: absolutely nowhere, except maybe you'll want to go to the kitchen and eat a snack. If that is the case, please do, because I'm making myself want a snack and I'll feel less guilty if I know someone else is eating unnecessarily too.)

You know what else is traumatizing? Putting your entire hand down on a hot stove to check how hot it is. DON'T DO IT. It may seem tempting at first (what if your one finger just doesn't have the right heat receptors?) but it is definitely not worth it.

(Ok, now I'm eating pie. IT'S DELICIOUS. Pie is the best food on Earth. And please don't confuse this with a love for the number Pi, or Life of Pi, because I never really got either of those. I'll stick with my calculator and my YA fantasies, thanks.)

Finally, last up on the traumatizing list- looking at old pictures of yourself. Looking at me now, you would never guess I used to be a fashion disaster. (Modesty, oh yes.) I think I'm a fairly stylish person. However, when I was younger, I wore... things (not even clothes. Things) like this.

But in bright pink or bright blue...paired with something like this.

Gorgeous, right? And yes, my mother let me leave the house. She thought it was 'cute'... now dooming me to humiliation whenever I look back at those photos. Even better? I used to wear leopard costumes everywhere. I had two, and they were my FAVOURITE THINGS EVER. (I was like ten. How did I not know better?) What are some traumatizing moments of your past?

This is also my (admittedly pointless) contribution to Jenny Matlock's wonderful linkup!

  2. No worries, I'm eating popcorn right now haha. My awkward phase lasted from about second grade through eighth grade and for many of those years I had straight, dark brown hair that laid flat against my head with a part in the middle...and don't even get me started on clothes hahah

  7. Enjoyed your post. I kind of like the pants, though I'm not sure I would have the nerve to wear them outside the house. Still, nice colors and silhouette.

  8. I wore white kid gloves in grade 9. I painted my nails, screwed up, wiped the nails with my other hand and then realized just as I needed to leave that I had no nail polish remover. I'm not sure why kid gloves were a better idea :(

  10. I read Life of Pi last year-- totally confusing just like the number pi, but also kind of deep and meaningful, if analysis is your thing. (Which, for an English student, is kinda compulsory).

  15. Haha! Well...yes, I have looked at old photos of myself and then think "What was I thinking!" But actually I think the pants would look cute with a solid top... :o) Enjoy more pie!

    Blessings & Aloha!

  16. blueberry pancakes are yummy, yes there are other ways to find out if the stove is hot, and I think every person looks back on their childhood clothes with disdain. I know I did. Funny as a parent when my daughter insists on wearing strange outfits there is really very little I can do about it. The other day to church she wore snow boots (in JULY), shorts, a hoodie vest, her dress coat (to be pretty she said) and a stack of baseball hats. The next day we were hanging out at home and she wanted to wear her fancy (think Father/Daughter dance formal) dress. If I had suggested any other fashion statement for either day WW III would have broken out. Just not worth it. I'm sure she will look back in horror one day, but until then...

Thanks for your tongue in cheek link to the letter "H".

But, to be honest, I kinda/sorta actually like the pants!
